Before we get to the show, here are a couple announcements:
On today’s show we are still talking about finances.
Today we talk about 17 Wrong Ways to Think About Money.
It’s important to remember that your situation with money reflects how you think about it.
By changing your mindset about money, you can potentially change your money situation.
Here are the 17 ways:
-I am owed
Obviously if someone legally owes you money disregard this, but get rid of any feeling of entitlement. Be grateful for what you receive and that’s it.
-Money solves problems
Money does not solve problems. Money is a tool. You solve problems. You can use money to solve problems, but money by itself does not solve problems.
-Time is money.
Money is what you make of it. If you want, time can be money, or you can use money to get more time.
-Money does not make you safe
You make you safe.
-If only you had….
Your problems are caused by other circumstances, not just the lack of money. Getting more money won’t necessarily make you a better person.
-Money is moral.
Money is not moral, it is amoral. Instead of thinking that having money makes you good or bad, focus on being a good person so that when you get money, you don’t have to worry about it.
-I can’t spend any money.
You probably can.
-I don’t have to worry about spending money.
Yes you do.
-I hate money.
Don’t hate money, just use it.
-Money means xyz.
Challenge what money means to yourself.
-I can handle the monthly payments
Check the total price tag.
-I’ll save when I have enough money
Start saving now.
-I’m in too deep.
No you’re not. Just stop digging.
-I can say yes to everything.
No you can't.
-This sale is a great deal
No, it isn’t.
-I budget in my head
You probably need to have a real budget.
-I need more
You probably don’t.
