In this episode I am reacting to a dog trainer working with he called a “Dominant Dog” You will see the trainer repeatedly correct the dog until the dog retreats into the state of learned helplessness which means he was exposed to repeated aversive stimuli without being able to escape. You will witness the dog repeatedly try to escape this trainers repeated corrections. This trainer is using old fashioned and outdated techniques that are not evidence based. I talk about what works and what doesn’t work when training a reactive dog. Safety measures should be taken by using a basket muzzle, a gentle leader, a martingale collar and a safety lead.
