In this episode, I am critiquing another trainer's handling of a reactive dog. I do this to show you what not to do with your dog. I do this also to protect your dog. I am their advocate. I am here for the dogs. It is important to use scientific evidence-based methods in training, not Force and fear. Force methods of training or old-fashioned and outdated. Punishment is easy. It is easy to punish a dog for being bad but you must think about what you are teaching your dog at that particular point. You're not teaching them anything other than to shut down. Because shutting down keeps them safe and keeps you quiet and away from them. And then you have a ticking time bomb because you shut down every warning signal that your dog would ever give you when they are reactive. We need our dogs to give us signals. How else are we supposed to communicate with our pets if we're correcting them and shutting down their ways of communication?
