I left the show after the first year, the first season. I loved it, don’t get me wrong. But, because they won Emmy’s in their first season and I was part of that, and I was proud of that, they got a lot more cash from Gracie and Fox who were their production companies at the time. They got a cash infusion which they could have easily afforded to put their crew to go union, but they didn’t. They did not support going union at the time. So I thought, what kind of freakin’ hypocrisy is this? And I got an offer to go work on “Fern Valley” because I was now about to be vested after 10 years, I was 10 years in the industry at the time. I’m in my thirties and I’m thinking a little more clearly than the 22 year olds who are working with me on the Simpsons who insisted that we don’t need the union, we’re going to live forever, we’re immortal. Well, guess what? “The Simpsons continued to be successful. They switched studios. They had a 401K. They were being produced at the same studio that “King Of The Hill” was, but nobody there had union benefits and all of the sudden they’re 40, they’re not 22 anymore.
