Description: When I’m doing my arranging I start from the bottom and work my way up. It’s the same for composing a song from scratch to already taking an arrangement it’s a pretty similar procedure. With an original composition I’ll start with the drum set. Whether it be a jazz song or R&B or Gospel. What kind of beat do I want so I’ll program my beat in. Then I’ll make the bass line. I’ve already figured out my chord changes and what the progression of the song is going to be. After I’ve got all that figured out, I already know what my bass line is going to be so the song is kind of already written in my head as well as a hand written, scratch, lead sheet if you will. And then a lot of ideas will come to me as I’m recording.
