Description

These days restaurant gatekeepers come in all shapes, sizes, and sartorial styles, but our guest Jorge Escudero is cut from the fine cloth of what many of us might consider a classic maître d.

Jorge has welcomed guests at iconic establishments over the years, including The Beatrice Inn, The 21 Club, and Sérêvène in Miami Beach. Now he’s at the door of chef Angie Mar’s deeply personal, glamorous, plush velvet, white tablecloth, silver service escape-to-another-much-finer-world restaurant Le B, in Greenwich Village.

Join us to get to know Jorge and hear about his journey from Peru to the New York fashion industry, to finding a home in fine dining hospitality. Jorge regales us with tales of the legendary and sadly closed 21 Club, and a reprehensible guest whose behavior will make you sick to your stomach. He also shares some tips on what he considers the importance of conducting ourselves “like ladies and gentlemen” when out to dine, and how if you’re going to shake a maître d’s hand, discretion is key.
