Today, we're honored to share the remarkable military career of Master Chief Petty Officer James Sandlin. His journey began in October 1972, leading him to serve on the Aircraft Carrier USS Forrestal (CVA-59), participating in three significant Mediterranean Sea cruises during a period of heightened conflict. After an initial active-duty period, James also dedicated three years to the U.S. Army Ohio National Guard before rejoining the Navy in 1980.

Upon his return to the Navy, Master Chief Sandlin embarked on a distinguished path in Cryptologic assignments. His service took him across the globe, from Alaska to Diego Garcia, and Scotland, including a notable period as an instructor in Maine. He played a crucial role on the USS Spruance (DD-963), involved in Caribbean Sea Operations and the Southwest Asia Cease Fire Campaign. His exemplary service included being personally commended by Commander US SIXTH Fleet for his support to combat operations near Libya. Master Chief Sandlin concluded his active duty in 1999 as the Senior Enlisted Advisor and Operations Superintendent at a Department of Defense Joint Operating Facility in Colorado, marking a truly impactful career.
