This is a review of the new definition of, causes, and care guidelines for mastitis. It is largely based on the most current recommendations from the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Protocols for Mastitis (updated in 2022) as well as the lecture given by myself and colleagues on Engorgement, Plugged Ducts, and Mastitis which does also include clinical opinion based on experience.
