As of Saturday, The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting 21986 new confirmed cases of Covid-19. This includes 1009 new probably cases in Bexar County. DHS noted the Bexar County numbers had not been updated since August 7th.
The department also reported 117 new fatalities. In Bexar County there are 1299 people hospitalized, and a rolling seven-day average of 1391 new cases.
New coronavirus cases, hospitalizations and deaths are rising in San Antonio as the delta variant surges in the community.
The city reported a 7-day average of 1,391 on Friday, an increase of 69 cases in 1 day. There have been 259,636 cases in the community in total. Officials said this week that 88% of new cases are a result of the delta variant. About 13% of cases are pediatric.
The positivity rate in the area has reached 21.4%.
There have been 3,673 total deaths related to the coronavirus in the area since last March.
