Cessationism is a theological belief that teaches that the gifts of the spirit (Prophecy, healings, words of knowledge, tongues, etc.) have ceased. We know it's more nuanced than that but in general, that's what it is.
This is problematic because there is no indication in Scripture that the gifts will cease before Jesus has His second coming. More than that, the Bible explicitly commands us to earnestly desire the gifts, ESPECIALLY prophecy. So, if people are teaching that the gifts stopped and we shouldn't go after them, then that's a direct contradiction to the Word of God.
This is why it's dangerous.
Today Derry and Ethan discuss this topic along with a concerning tweet from a well-known Cessationist teacher, Justin Peters.
Enjoy!
