It is so easy to fall into the trap of 'I need this'. We believe we will only be good at music once we have this one thing. However, that is a lie....
As consumers and fans, we see all of these musicians with their fancy equipment, and want to be just like them by buying the same things. The problem with that is 1.) that we could be spending way more money then we really have to, and more importantly, 2.) if you want to get better at music, expensive gear won't help.
