Description

I first met Tu at the Melbourne Amend’s Men’s workshop, where he was one of the facilitators along with Wa from Episode 33. My guest opened the session with a beautiful acknowledgement and prayer, recognising the four elements and four compass directions.

This was my first glimpse into the heart of this man. During this workshop, we formed a more profound connection during an exercise that dealt with abandonment and relationships with our fathers. We openly held and supported each other as we allowed the emotion of past pains to flow through our bodies and tears to cascade down our cheeks.

After that, he called me his Aussie Dad, which I hold close and dear to my heart every day. He is one of the most loving and beautiful men I have ever met.

Born in Hamilton and raised in Wellington, he moved to the Gold Coast in Queensland as a teenager.

He worked in construction for most of his life, following in his father’s footsteps until he realised his passion was to help people. He wanted to help others be the best version of themselves like he was doing for himself. This was due to his own life experiences with depression and suicide.

He has been a part of Amend since the beginning and is one of the key facilitators of their programs. He has been on his spiritual journey for the past two years and is actively working on himself to be the best version of himself to be a role model for his two sons.

He works at a behavioural school for disengaged teenage boys and has been a youth worker for over five years.

In this week's episode, we revisited our shared experience at the Amend workshop, how we held space for each other's hurt inner children and how that has helped us reconcile and forgive our fathers.

Tu talked about his challenges growing up and how that led him to multiple suicide attempts before realising he had to look deep within himself to find and embody true self-love. Having discovered that, Tu shares his wisdom on how we can also learn to embody who we are and to accept all of our perfect imperfections.
