This morning we look at how both Jesus and Abraham responded to the words that Satan way trying to get them to accept.

Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying

Abraham is Tested on his way to Mount Moriah

And whilst Abraham was proceeding with his son Isaac along the road, Satan came and appeared to Abraham in the figure of a very aged man, humble and of contrite spirit, and he approached Abraham and said to him, art thou silly or brutish, that thou goest to do this thing this day to thine only son ? 26. For God gave thee a son in thy latter days, in thy old age, and wilt thou go and slaughter him this day because he committed no vio- lence, and wilt thou cause the soul of thine only son to perish from the earth ? 27. Dost thou not know and understand that this thing cannot be from the Lord ? For the Lord can- not do unto man such evil upon earth to say to him, go slaughter thy child. 28. And Abra- ham heard this and knew that it was the word of Satan who endeavored to draw him aside from the way of the Lord, but Abraham would not hearken to the voice of Satan, and Abraham rebuked him so that he went away.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

Matthew 4: Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.10 Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’ 11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.
