The bible teaches us that God our Father is a compassionate God, Jesus is full of compassion and that you and I, as new citizens in the kingdom of God, are required to be just as gracious to others.
Exodus 33:19 And He said, I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you and will proclaim the name of the Lord before you, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
Colossians 3:12 12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Exodus 34:6 Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in loving-kindness and truth;
Psalm 103:8 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, Slow to anger and abounding in loving-kindness.
Psalm 116:5 Gracious is the Lord and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate.
Lamentations 3:22 The Lord’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
Psalm 103:3-4

Who redeems your life from the pit,
Who crowns you with loving-kindness and compassion;
Psalm 119:77 May Your compassion come to me that I may live, For Your law is my delight.
