As a seasoned politician, Strickland has dedicated his life to public service. Born on October 22, 1963, in Mishawaka, Indiana, he moved to Memphis with his family and graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1982 . He earned his bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis in 1989.

Strickland's leadership has left an indelible mark on Memphis's growth trajectory. During his tenure, he:

• Successfully dodged the threat of de-annexation, potentially saving 111,000 residents and $27-80 million in tax revenue 
• Passed the first city budget in a unanimous and record-breaking seven-minute vote 
• Increased funding for the Memphis Police Department and public libraries
• Retained ServiceMaster, saving 1,200 jobs and $100 million in payroll 

Currently, Strickland serves as the Dean of the University of Memphis Law School, continuing his commitment to community development.
