We often talk about the influence social media has on us as dentists, but one area we haven't really unpacked before is this idea of building our personal brand. What does it actually mean? What does it look like in practice? And how do we even begin?
In this episode, Dr Alex Foo and I dive into the idea of using social media intentionally to build our identity as a dentist - whether we're an associate wanting to connect with patients in a fun and authentic way, or a clinician to help educate and inspire others, or to showcase our work to prospective employers. There are so many different directions we can take it, but the key thing is we just need to start! And oftentimes that can be the greatest mental barrier.
We also talk openly about the mental load of dentistry, and the perfectionism, comparison, and pressure that we don't always know how to explain. We explore the importance of nurturing strong relationships with our team and colleagues, finding ways to decompress outside of dentistry, and remembering our “humble bubble” that keeps us grounded.
This was a really wholesome episode with Alex and an important reminder on building a career that feels true to us.
