One of the most obscured movies we have watched here on the podcast for sure! But as it would turn out, the movie Head starring the fictional turned real band, The Monkees, has more under the skin than we could have ever imagined!
Head is a 1968 Americansatiricalmusicaladventure film written and produced byJack Nicholson andBob Rafelson, directed by Rafelson, starring television rock groupthe Monkees (Davy Jones,Peter Tork,Micky Dolenz andMichael Nesmith)[2] and distributed byColumbia Pictures. A theatrical spin-off of the 1966–68NBC television show and a swan song (series finale), it started production directly after completion of series production.
During production, one of the working titles for the film wasChanges, which was later the name of analbum by the Monkees. Another working title wasUntitled. A rough cut of the film was previewed for audiences in Los Angeles in the summer of 1968 under the titleMovee Untitled.
The film featuredVictor Mature as "The Big Victor" andcameo appearances by Nicholson,Teri Garr,Carol Doda,Annette Funicello,Frank Zappa,Sonny Liston,Timothy Carey,Percy Helton andRay Nitschke. Also appearing on screen in brief non-speaking parts areDennis Hopper and film choreographerToni Basil.
