Description

In this episode, Baba Derrick brings what he has learned from A Concerned Group of Men to the work of Joe Benton (Maa Kheru) at Juvenile Justice and the study and history lectures of Burnie Gallman, M.D. Integrating African-centered scholars and practitioners from the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilizations (ASCAC), the three form Project Sankofa.

Project Sankofa was a youth program in South Carolina designed to help young men develop a strong sense of identity and connection to their history. Building upon existing relationships and community resources, Project Sankofa expanded beyond its initial location to other communities, training local leaders to continue the program's impact.

The train-the-trainer model then gets the attention of Marian Wright Edelman (a South Carolina native) and the Children's Defense Fund (CDF).
