Sleep To Baseball Podcast Episode 4
Athletics @ Dodgers 1974 World Series, Game 1: Pt 1
Game Highlights:
Reggie Jackson opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the second inning off Dodgers' pitcher Andy Messersmith.
The Athletics added another run in the fifth inning when Ken Holtzman, making his first at-bat of the season due to the designated hitter rule, doubled and later scored on a Bert Campaneris suicide squeeze bunt.
The Dodgers responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth, capitalizing on an error by Campaneris and a misplayed single by Bill Buckner.
Oakland's final run came in the eighth inning, aided by a wild throw from Dodgers' third baseman Ron Cey, allowing Sal Bando to reach third base and later score on a flyout by Jackson.
In a critical defensive play, Joe Ferguson of the Dodgers threw out Bando at the plate, preventing further scoring.
