What I learned from starting:
1. Have at least somewhat of a plan or outline.
So write outsome key points and maybe done phrases you don't want to forget.
2. Don't pay attention to the time!
Cover up the clock.
3. Relax and remember that everything will be ok.
Figure out 1 thing at a time and don't overwhelm yourself with learning.
4. Don't do laundry in background.
As a recording artist I should know better, but I would've used having to do the laundry as an excuse to not begin. Buuuut then again, don't let that stop you.
The language of procrastination:
I will try
Probably
,
Hopefully
,
Maybe
,
I'll get back to you
,
I'll do that when I get home. Language for justifying:
I didn't get around to that
,
Tomorrow
,
I didn't have (enter something trivial) to do it
,
I got busy
. Sorry the link would not post here for some reason but you can search for the article yourself:
From Ann Wheeler, Landmark College "From Inaction to Action"
• blaming oneself or others
• judgmental comments
• use of the word “procrastination”
• excessive agreeability
• exaggerated confidence
• excessive use of “I don’t know”
• excessive planning, not doing
• tentative comments (“will try to” rather than “will”)
• positive spin (highlights one positive in a majority of negatives)
Recognize and change the language we use!
The road to getting nothing done is paved with good intentions or whatever they say.
