Psalm 103:17
But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children
Is your sense of time being challenged by the current
situation? I find myself having to think quite hard about what day of the week it is sometimes!
In yesterday's verse we thought about our weakness, but
those verses also speak about how fleeting our lives are. Here today and gone tomorrow. Yet it doesn't feel that. We talk about something lasting for 'a lifetime' as though that was a significant period, rather than being the blink of an eye in the context of eternity. Doesn't it already feel as if lockdown has gone on 'for ever'?! Yet there is one thing that really will last forever ...
God's love for his people.
We may struggle to get our heads around the idea of 'everlasting', but even the smallest glimpse of what that means, before our
minds become totally boggled, should prompt us to praise God as David does. At the very least, it means that there will never be a day of our lives when God won't love us. There won't be a second of today when he won't be compassionate and gracious to us. Whatever the future holds, for us or those we love, God's love will surround us through it, if we are united to him by faith in Jesus.
