Psalm 103:19
The Lord has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
It is always encouraging to be reminded that God reigns over
everything, even coronavirus. And that might be what you need to focus on and be thankful for today.
But for me personally, the challenge of this verse is not
remembering that God rules over what's going on 'out there'. Rather, I need to be reminded that he also rules over me. At the moment I'm finding the desire to run MY Kingdom, MY way is really strong. I want my little world to be ordered to suit me and me alone. The same seems to be true for some of the people I
live with!
Isn't that why we struggle to live in close proximity to
other people? Because our rule, over our own personal kingdom, gets challenged. But the problem isn't everyone else. It's me. And the solution isn't just to be more accommodating of the people around me. Instead, it starts by remembering that God alone has the right to rule my life. Without his help I will always be a treacherous rebel, undermining his rightful sovereignty. Ouch! How wonderful that when we confess our rebellion and repent, we are coming to a compassionate and gracious father whose love never fails. Praise God that his kingdom rules over all - let's pray that that would be true in each of our lives today, as
well as in the world 'out there'.
