Psalm 103:20-22
Praise the Lord, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the Lord, my soul.
This Psalm ends as it began ... with encouragement to praise
God. Only now it is not just an individual ('my soul') but the whole company of heaven and all God's creatures on earth ('his works') that are to praise him. We probably don't think much about the 'heavenly hosts', outside of Christmas carols. And the Bible doesn't give us huge amounts of detail about them. But it's clear that they exist, they are numerous, and their whole purpose is to serve God and praise him continually. How wonderful to know
that, even though we so often fail to worship and obey God as he deserves, there is a glorious multitude wholeheartedly dedicated to doing exactly that, 24/7 for all eternity. That should perhaps remind us that God is so much more praiseworthy than we yet realise.
This Psalm has given us a long list of reasons to praise God.
Let's join our voices with the angels in heaven today, remembering his goodness and greatness. It is not only the right and proper thing to do now, but great practice for the day when we will stand alongside that heavenly host, worshipping him face to face! As well as praising God in prayer, why not put your praises to music by listening and singing along to a song or hymn that praises him?
