Psalm 16:2

I say to the Lord,
‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.’

What are you thankful for today? What good thing, or things,
are you enjoying right now?

At the moment, we may be especially aware of all the things
in our lives that are not good, all the things we want but can't have, all the ways life could be easier. Some of us may be facing really significant hardships. Thankfulness never cancels out the suffering in life. Problems don't go away just because we 'count our blessings'. But equally, suffering never means that there is NOTHING to be thankful for. But we might have to make a
conscious effort to look for what is good, when what is bad or hard is filling our minds.

So, what good thing(s) can you be thankful for today?
Whatever they are, if they are good then we know that they come to us from God. There is nothing good apart from him. The non-Christian may enjoy good things in this world, as part of God's kindness to them, even when they don't acknowledge the giver. But we know where all our good things comes from. Why
wouldn’t we want to thank God for them? Even more than that, we know the giver himself, as our loving heavenly Father. Let's also thank him for the great blessing of knowing him and being his children. He himself is the greatest 'good thing' we have, and that can never be taken away from us.
