Psalm 27:11

Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.

In verse 10 we saw David's confidence that God will ALWAYS
receive him with open arms. Our world loves that kind of unconditional acceptance, doesn't it? Yet, the world assumes that unconditional welcome also means unconditional approval of whatever we want to and wherever we want go. The world's version of v.11 would say something like "Thank you that you
will look after me as I enjoy my freedom to do whatever I want" but that's not how David's mind works.

It's precisely because God welcomes and rescues him that
David wants to stay close to God. "Teach me YOUR way, Lord" he says. In other words, "I don't want to go everywhere and do everything. I only want to go where you are. I only want to do the things that please you. I don't want to live in the midst of your enemies, following their ways. I want to stick to the straight path of humble faith and obedience. I'm content to go wherever you lead me because I trust you. Even when your way is hard, please
keep leading me along it." That's how David's mind works. That's what his heart desires.

Let's pray today that God would change our minds and hearts,
that we would want more and more to walk in his ways.  And notice too that going God's way doesn't involve being given a map and left to get on with it. Instead, we ask him to lead us, and he does. He walks the path with us. Let's pray that each of us
would follow him today.
