Psalm 27:5

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.

If you've been pondering yesterday's verse, you might still
be wondering 'Really, David, how would being in God's house help, when you're supposed to be fighting your enemies?' Is it perhaps that the temple is a good, strong building to hide in during an invasion? Well, this verse tells us that's
not the case. The 'house of God' David is talking about turns out to be a tent!

After all, the first permanent temple was only built after David's death, by his son Solomon. The comfort David has from being in the house of the Lord didn't come from its building materials. He is secure in the tent because it is God's tent. He is safely perched 'high upon a rock' - and 'a rock' is a common description of God throughout the psalms. He wants to be in God's house because
that is where God himself is.  His confidence is not dependent on where he is, but on who is with him.

Let's give thanks today that we don't have to visit a special building to be with God. We are safe in his dwelling place right here, right now, because he lives in us by his Spirit. We could also pray especially for Christians we know who are facing particular dangers or difficulties right now. Let's pray that they would know the comfort and assurance that in their 'day of trouble', God is with them and they are secure in him.
