Psalm 27:7

Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.

Earlier in this Psalm we thought about how extraordinary it
is that a sinful human could ask to come into God's presence and to see his face. In this verse we have an equally bold request: "God, listen to me, and answer me." Prayer is - or should be - an everyday experience for us. But when you think about it, it’s remarkable. A very small, very short-lived creature can address the sovereign creator of the universe and ask him to
listen to this tiny, weak little voice, asking for divine favour and help. No wonder God's mercy is in David's mind as he writes this verse. It is only because he is merciful and gracious that he allows us to speak to him, and is willing to hear us and answer our prayers.

So we need NEVER feel that we can't pray because of something in us or in our lives. Have you ever thought "I can't pray because I'm such a rubbish Christian God won't listen", "I can't ask God to help me because my situation is completely my own fault", "I
can't pray about this thing because it's not important enough for God to bother with"?  As if God only hears our prayers the rest of the time because we are 'a good Christian' or because we've
earned a hearing, or because we're praying about something especially important that might change the world. We never deserve a hearing in the throne room of heaven, yet the king is our father, whose son himself taught us to pray as dependent children.

We can only ever pray on the basis of his mercy, which is
constant.  So, let's bring our needs, our concerns, our joys and our struggles to God today, trusting that he will hear us because he is merciful.
