Psalm 51:11
Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Throughout the Psalms we keep coming across this idea of God turning his face away from sinners, or sending sinners away from him. And I keep saying that if we are trusting Jesus we need never be afraid that it will happen to us.
But how can we be sure? After all, it's too important just
to take my word for it! In fact, we have Jesus' own words to reassure us. In John 6 he says "All those the Father
gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.' NEVER. However great our sins, however feeble our faith, however wobbly our
discipleship, when we come to Jesus for forgiveness and help he will NEVER send us away. And because Jesus is with the Father right now, if we are always with
Jesus then we are always in God the Father's presence. Not because we deserve to be there, but because Jesus does.
Not only that, but we have the Holy Spirit living in us, who
teaches us not to sin, strengthens our weak faith and keeps pointing us back to Jesus so that we can keep following him.
So let's praise God today for the assurance that he will
never send us away from him, and for the gift of his Spirit living in us. Let's pray that we would grow in our gratitude for these great blessings.
