Description

In this episode of Savagely Scaled, Joyce and Blake sit down to unpack their whirlwind August and share what’s ahead for September.

Blake dives into her first big weightlifting competition — the nerves, the mindset, and the grind of cutting and staying on track. From Disneyland churros during prep, to standing under the bright stage lights, to taking home second place overall with silver in clean & jerk and bronze in snatch, she reflects on the support from her mom, Chris, teammates, and her own drive. Blake also shares the emotional high of breaking a Southwest WSO record and how competition reignited her love of performance.

Joyce recaps her CrossFit progress: handstand holds, push-ups, and working toward muscle-ups. She also shares her experience doing the Hotshots 19 WOD with Kingman CrossFit friends, pushing her limits in the summer heat while bonding with the crew. Her trip to Mexico to pick up her ID also turned into a chance to reconnect with family — food, laughter, and gratitude included.

The duo talks about taking a recovery month in September, mixing CrossFit back in, and gearing up for Barbell Mayhem with Amanda Aguilar. They also brainstorm future episode ideas — from “rivals to friends” stories in the gym, to featuring members like Trisha and Emily on their Hotshots experience, to maybe even roping in Coach Dave or Joyce’s boyfriend Joe for a future sit-down.
