Today we’re joined by Brian Mealy, a dedicated public servant and lifelong North Fork resident whose family has deep roots in Southold. Brian has worn many hats in the community, from school boards to the Floyd Memorial Library, and now as a member of the Southold Town Board, where in 2021 he became the first African American elected to office in the town’s history.
In our conversation, Brian reflects on his family’s legacy, the values passed down from his parents, and the experiences that shaped his path into public service. We talk about the challenges and triumphs he’s witnessed in local government, his advocacy for mental health, affordable housing, and environmental protection, and the moments that have affirmed why he continues to serve the community.
