Irene Shiang Li (she/her) co-founded Mei Mei in Boston in 2013 and built the brand around sustainable sourcing and fair and transparent employment practices, including open book management.
Mei Mei is now a dumpling company and Irene’s focus is on building Prepshift, a tech-enabled coaching and workforce training firm that works directly with restaurants, and partners with government and private entities to ensure a bright future for independent food businesses.
Irene is a 2022 James Beard Foundation Leadership Award winner and serves on the boards of Project Bread, The Food Project, and the Independent Restaurant Coalition.
Together we talk about her fight for food sovereignty in the greater Boston area, creating a cookbook with her sister, and how hard she works to give back to her community.
