Wood discusses some of today’s myopic views of manhood, manliness, masculinity etc. Some of the loudest speakers have such glaring blind spots, yet claim they want to lead Black people in our collective healing. One example discussed is former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch’s handling of a mother who disapproved of his usage of profanity to coach her young son at his football camp. Right on time, overwhelmingly the men commenting on the Instagram video of the recorded exchange believed profanity was necessary to make young boys stronger. Sounds like some spiritual warfare going on.
