I recently had the privilege of interviewing Barbara Harvey, an inspiring parent coach whose journey began after meeting Dr. Miles Monroe, who helped her discover her true calling. Barbara is deeply passionate about helping parents understand their children and create strong, lasting relationships within their families.
One of Barbara’s key messages is the critical role of fathers in a child’s life. She referenced the powerful scripture, “The glory of children is their father,” and shared her concern about the rising number of children born to single mothers in the U.S. Barbara’s mission is to restore the nuclear family structure, offering support and guidance to make that vision a reality.
Barbara also believes that parenting is about relationships, not just a set of techniques. She emphasizes that the parent-child bond is shaped by who the parent is becoming as an individual, and she’s committed to helping parents grow personally so they can build deeper connections with their children.
In our discussion, Barbara highlighted the stress parents face in today’s world, particularly due to the lack of extended family support. She called for churches and other organizations to step up by providing educational resources and community spaces to help parents thrive.
Excitingly, Barbara is working on a new book, "Building a Kingdom Parent Ministry," where she shares her experience running a non-profit that has supported over 12,500 parents. She’s also launching the "School of Kingdom Family Walls," a comprehensive program designed to train parent educators and strengthen families.
As we wrapped up, we agreed on the importance of active father involvement and the need to support and rebuild family structures, especially in the Black community.
