On episode 2 we were able to speak with Social Worker and Substance abuse counselor Alyssa Abernathy-Boston.
Alyssa C. Abernathy was born and raised in Queens, New York, and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. Family is incredibly important to Alyssa, as she is a daughter, sister, and mother. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts from The College of New Rochelle School of New Resources, and her Master's degree in social work from Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus). Alyssa has worked in counseling services, providing support, resources, information, and linkages to services for various populations in need. She has also served as a youth leader and chaplain in the faith-based community.
In 2019, Alyssa founded the non-profit organization, Life Equip Group Inc. Her personal experiences inspired the creation of LEG and its programs, which aim to empower adolescents and young adults in disadvantaged communities through educational, professional, and personal development. Alyssa has been recognized for her contributions to her community and desires to contribute to the growth and development of youth and young adults."Be the change you want to see in the world."
