Join us for a powerful message in our new series, "The Essentials," where we explore the most important pursuits in life. Today’s sermon, "One Thing to Ask," focuses on the deep, enduring desire to dwell in God's presence.
Key Points:
Running from God:
Despite his trials, King David chose to run towards God. In Psalm 27:1-3, he declares the Lord as his light, salvation, and stronghold. Instead of asking for deliverance from his enemies, David sought the presence of God above all.
Application:
Reflect on areas where you might be running from God.
Seek His presence in times of trouble and uncertainty.
Trusting in Our Own Strength:
We often rely on our own strength and plans to fulfill our desires, like my attempt to gain control through buying a new truck. David, however, sought to dwell in God's house, finding true security and satisfaction in His presence (Psalm 27:4-5).
Application:
Identify where you rely on your own strength instead of God's.
Shift your focus to seeking God’s presence to transform your approach to challenges.
Finding Safety and Salvation in His Presence:
David's ultimate desire was safety and salvation found in God alone. He longed for intimate fellowship with the Lord, expressing this in Psalm 27:6-8. His heart’s response to God’s invitation to seek His face was wholehearted and unwavering.
Application:
Make seeking God's presence your primary desire.
Embrace the peace and safety that come from dwelling in His presence, even amidst life’s storms.
Let's pray together, asking God to help us make His presence the one thing we desire above all else.
