Diva is every version of a ...LEXIE!

Friends, on this episode we are gifted the presence of my little DOC sister Lexi. Lexi was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes at the age of 10. The year before her diagnosis there was a boy named Jay in her class and she remembers Jay eating snacks in class when they weren't permitted. She told her teachers she wanted diabetes! Not too long after she was diagnosed!

Due to the signs her mom was witnessing, one day after school she took her to her primary care doctor thinking she must have a bladder infection. These symptoms included drinking a lot of water and using the bathroom more frequently. Lexie recalls having a cookie at lunch that day. Upon visiting the doctor, they noticed she had ketones and then told her mom to take her to ER at Cook General FT Worth immediately. He mentioned to her she shouldn't eat anything, but she was starving so her mom stopped at Mcdonald's, and she got a mandarin, grilled chicken salad.

Lexie mentions how her mom looked mortified, and she was so scared. It turned out to be her best hospital stay. The memory of her diagnosis was initially fear and then fun!

Lexie speaks candidly about running track in high school but never having any diabetes related incidents. She also

feels as though she didn't take the best of care of herself in high school; only checking her blood sugar if she felt low and would take insulin for food but rarely took insulin for corrections.

Next year she will be celebrating not only her 30th year of life but also her 20th diaversary! And with these great milestones she wants to travel to South Africa and

also, will be joining with her diabetes family in Bali! Reach out to Lexie to join in on this experience!
