On this episode we will hear from Tiffany. Tiffany as was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes at the age of 1. After a bout with a cold and given penicillin, shortly after she was frail, sick, with frequent soaked diapers and was next diagnosed with T1D.
Diabetes is all Tiffany knows. She has never experienced or known a life without diabetes. She has great respect for the doctors that diagnosed her and helped her family early on with this new diagnosis.
When she entered school at the age of 5, students didn't even know she had diabetes. Often Tiff would go under the table to eat her diabetes snacks so that the kids wouldn't bother her about them.
She recalls testing ketones by peeing in a vial and spinning it around.
Throughout her life her family made adjustments for everyone so that Tiffany would never feel left out, alone or different.
Growing up one of her best friend's sisters had diabetes.
Through her childhood and adolescents, she was able to play sports and everything, never feeling indifferent. She ran track, played basketball and softball.
During a time when the advancements in diabetes tech were not there from the 1980's, into the 2000's Tiff was able to do everything she wanted to, and diabetes never stopped her at all.
Tiffany today has lived with Type One Diabetes for 41 years.
She did not let diabetes put limits on her life
