A sermon on John 5:1-30
Jesus met a man who had been paralyzed for 38 years and asked him if he wanted to get well and then Jesus said,
"Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."- John 5:8
Instead of acknowledging the miracle of the man walking after 38 years, The Jewish leaders asked the man who had told him that he was allowed to break the Sabbath by picking up his mat. They then began to persecute Jesus for breaking rules they had created for the Sabbath.
The Pharisees were so wrapped up in their rules that they completely miss who Jesus is. Instead of the One who brings life to the world, Jesus is the one that threatens their system and authority.
