Diane Manser is a current 18-year high school English teacher in a suburban district of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States. Diane teaches ninth graders, and has just published a book about the emotional challenges of teaching called “I Didn't Sign Up For This: One Classroom Teacher's Journey Through Emotional Fatigue to PersonalEmpowerment”.
Diane feels strongly that the education we receive as teachers, should emphasize that teaching is an emotional profession just as it is a content profession. Teachers need to develop intrapersonal understanding to strengthen their teaching abilities and resiliency. I’ve been really lucky to start reading an advanced reader copy of the book. I’m up to chapter 5 right now, and I have resonated with it at so many different levels. That’s why I’m super excited to speak to Diane today to dive deeper into the idea that teaching is an emotional profession.Diane and her work can be found at www.teachingisemotional.com, where you can join the mailing list to get a sample of the book to see if it's right for you.
