Week 12: Keep Going and Keep Growing

When we were younger, we might have believed that at some point, we would grow up and have learned everything we needed to know. As we grow older, we realize that learning and growing never end. Life continues to uniquely unfold before us, extending endless invitations to relearn some of the melodies we can sing without thought, to unshackle ourselves from the illusions we once held dear, and to embrace living with an open heart and mind. Life can feel scary when we think we know all the answers, instead of intimately knowing the One who does.

Here are some prompts for you to pray and process this week:

• What are some areas you've ignored or given up on that you need to learn and grow in?
• In what areas do you need to keep going, reminding yourself that growing pains aren't a bad thing?
• Are you looking to yourself to know all the answers, or are you looking to God to finish what He started in you?

When I was a kid, even a young adult, I believed I was in the learning phase of life, and at some point, I would have all the knowledge I needed and be a full-fledged adult. Now, as a full-fledged adult, I know better. Learning is never-ending. Yet, I think we've all seen or known people who at some point think they have it all figured out and refuse to listen to anything that would challenge what they believe to be true. I used to be one of those people, very black and white in my thinking, and I knew all the answers. I really had no time to entertain anything other than what I believed to be true.

Which is why I am so thankful for the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives, that continues to draw us and lead us to truth when we keep our hearts and minds humble and surrendered to the Spirit of God. Our God is faithful to keep us and to continue to lead us in His ways, and Scripture informs us His ways are not our ways. Never stop learning, friend. There’s always more, and we have eternity to take it all in.
