Senator Todd Young is a fifth generation Hoosier who grew up outside of Indianapolis. While growing up in Indiana, Todd delivered newspapers, mowed lawns and mopped floors at his family’s small business.
After high school, Todd enlisted in the U.S. Navy and soon earned an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated with honors. He then served in the United States Marine Corps as an intelligence officer — including duties at the southern border — and left active duty in 2000 with the rank of Captain.
Following his military service, Todd pursued graduate studies while working in policy and consulting roles. He earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and a Masters from the University of London before returning to Indiana and obtaining his J.D. from Indiana University.
Todd entered congressional service in 2011 when he was elected to represent Indiana’s 9th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving three terms. In 2016, he ran for the U.S. Senate and secured election to serve as one of Indiana’s two senators.In the Senate, he has focused on issues including national security, technological innovation, economic opportunity, and veterans’ affairs.
He and his wife Jenny live in Johnson County, Indiana with their four children.
