Episode Summary:
Hotshot LA Dodgers superstar pitcher Ray Nakamura shocks the city of San Francisco when he arrives unannounced in rival territory on a secret personal mission - to find his dream girl and true love. Seeking out renowned local matchmaker Jess Lloyd, the arrogant athlete makes an outrageous offer to pay her a quarter of a million dollars if she can successfully find him the perfect match within 6 weeks. Jess staunchly refuses, as a diehard San Francisco Giants fan who holds a personal grudge against Ray for crushing her hometown team's World Series dreams with a championship-winning homerun.
Desperate to support her uninsured father's mounting medical bills, Jess resorts to blackmailing the wealthy baseball star, threatening to smear his reputation with fabricated salacious gossip. A defiant Ray calls her bluff, until she ups the ante by jeopardizing his lifelong friendship with her brother Andrew. Backed into a corner, Ray reluctantly agrees to Jess' terms, despite their mutual disdain.
When Ray describes his ideal woman, her traits uncannily match Jess's own appearance and personality. As they begin crash course practice dates to prep the relationship-challenged Ray for the real thing, their chemistry is undeniable. Through witty banter and surprising shared interests, professional boundaries get murky.
Meanwhile, Jess struggles with finding Ray a love match among her social circle, as she promised. Prospective candidates always fall short in comparison to her own connection with Ray. As their rapport strengthens and true colors shine through, Jess questions if the arrogant ballplayer she loathed is actually her perfect match.
With the clock ticking on their arrangement, Jess must decide whether to pursue her own romantic feelings, or suppress them to deliver on her deal and secure the money Ray offered which could change her family's life. Will Ray find true love in enemy territory, or could his elusive soulmate have been right in front of him all along?
