How often do we get things misconstrued in text and online messages? As Zig Ziglar says, “In many ways, effective communication begins with mutual respect, communication that inspires and encourages others to do their best.”
Inasmuch as the internet has made things very accessible for everyone, it has made communication a bit more difficult because so much of how we communicate is through online and text messages. But words only make up 7% of our communication. 38% is tonality and pause, and 55% is body language. How then are we able to get our message across to someone when they only get to read what you’re trying to say?

Episode Highlights:
[06:04] Choose to Be a Better Person
Choose the option to become better and do what you've dreamed of doing. That also means you get to choose the people you’re going to surround yourself with. While we can’t choose family, you can seek out like-minded people who are always in growth mode and you can hold space for each other.
[10:16] Choose to Be a Thermostat Over a Thermometer
A thermometer measures the temperature and that’s all it does. And if you’re that kind of person and you find yourself in a heated conversation, you’re just going to jump in and say your piece no matter what. Or you can be a thermostat where you still manage to keep your cool in a heated conversation because you’re there not to take sides, but to be a witness.
[11:55] Three Ways to Alleviate Tension
Especially, during holiday events, we could get stuck in a room filled with tension. And there are ways to ease things up a bit. First, you can take on a character, say an Englishman, and carry on in an English accent. Another option is to only allow people to argue their point with charades or Pictionary. Or you can just start spraying whipped cream into people's mouths.
[16:21] The Four Pieces of Effective Communication
The first piece of effective communication is to know what you want to say and what you want to convey. Know what your intention is because nine times out of 10, we don't say what we're intending.
