Description

Today on the Conveners I’m incredibly delighted to welcome Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, who is a huge advocate for physical activity generally and a long-time supporter of GM Moving and GM Active.

Andy is a passionate believer in getting people moving for health benefits, not just since becoming mayor of Greater Manchester, but previously as a former health secretary in the previous labour government. His personal passion for physical activity is well known as he competes in a number of events and stays active generally for his own mental health, and he often talks about the positive impact physical activity has on people's mental health.

For this episode, I was joined by Hayley Lever from GM Moving, a good friend of mine who we interview later in the series too so look out for that along with other key players in GM that are all part of the GM movement for movement initiative.  In this episode, you’ll hear why Andy believes physical activity is central to any prevention strategy and why he believes physical activity has been mis-sold over the years.  Also, hear why physical activity will be positioned to drive the wider aims of the Live Well campaign across Greater Manchester and what he wants the government to do to support his vision for improving lives across GM. Plus find out why Andy doesn’t follow Everton for the football!
