We know that we're stepping out of order here but we figured that this would be the best place for the Monkees final TV special (and the final appearance of all four Monkees together for almost 20 years) because it would be a bummer to end the entire podcast with it! Paco and Jef try to guide you through this trippy, nostalgic slice of weirdness without getting lost in the weeds. This special has everything: Darwin, interpretive dance, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Fats Domino, psychedelic strobe effects...the only thing it's really missing is the Monkees! Not only did this TV Special make NBC cancel the other two Monkees TV specials it had slated but they hated it so much they played it opposite the Oscars! AND within days of finishing this special Peter Tork quit the band. Is this special cursed?!
