The episode for this week’s TyePod features Julianna who was involved in an underwater diving accident that left her with a severe spinal cord injury during a trip to Hawaii.
She talks about her efforts to remain independent including physical fitness activities and living in Arizona for part of the year. One thing I think is important to consider from Julianna’s story is that any of us can become disabled at any point in our lives. I very much relate to her approach to adapting to a new “normal”!

A podcast cover features a scenic outdoor landscape with a grassy field, scattered rocks, and tall autumn trees beneath a partly cloudy sky. Centered near the top is a bold white banner outlined in black with the text “THE TYE POD” in thick black letters. Below the banner are three figures: on the left, a smiling man with glasses, a beard, and short brown hair, wearing a black collared shirt; in the middle, a cartoon-style avatar of a person with brown hair, glasses, and a beard seated in a power wheelchair and wearing a black cap; and on the right, a smiling woman with long dark hair wearing a black bandana and a colorful tie-dye shirt. Near the bottom, text in a white box reads: “S2E65 AKA ‘All your bits hanging out for everyone to see!’” Beneath that are two black rounded tags with white text featuring social media handles.
