Today we look back on probably our most favorite haunted trail in Washington State, the infamous Iron Goat. Located on scenic Hwy 2 just before Stevens pass, The Iron Goat trail leads you to the sight of the most deadly avalanche in US history. On March 1, 1910, near Wellington, Washington, a small railroad town in the Cascade Mountains, heavy snowfall and a sudden warming trend led to the collapse of a massive snowpack on the slopes above. The snow buried a train and surrounding area, resulting in the deaths of 96 people, including passengers and crew.
Many locals and visitors claim to experience paranormal activity linked to the site of the disaster. Reports include sightings of ghostly figures, strange noises, and a general sense of unease in the area. Some believe that the spirits of the victims still linger, seeking closure from their untimely deaths.
