Many opted out of contracts because they expect the league to increase salaries across the board. Even Championship team the Aces only have 1 player under contract for next season. Plus, two expansion teams will be joining the WNBA with Toronto and Portland starting in 2026. However, with a lockout looming, a long CBA battle could be ahead, especially after players association Vice President Napheesa Collier vented her frustrations after being injured during a playoff game which ended her season, essentially knocking the Minnesota Lynx out of contention for a title after having the best regular season record in the WNBA.
