We talk about the WNBA Finals and how it was a great series. As she said, the NY Liberty would win, even though she felt they were outcoached. However, Minnesota's head coach Cheryl Reeve claimed poor officiating is what cost her team the title.
Maria truly believes Cheryl is an excellent coach, despite how she treated Diana Taurasi during the Olympics, which I was not happy about. Maria felt Minnesota would not have won game 4 without some lucky calls. We both said your team should play well enough to where you do not have to put the outcome of the game in the hands of the officials.
I brought up the WNBA players union deciding to opt out of their CBA agreement, which was signed in 2020. Maria believes the players and league have built a ton of momentum this season, which should carry over in 2025. She did not like the way it was announced with a video that has been played all over social media, certain issues have to remain in house.
Maria's main concern is having all this momentum go to waste if a strike happens after the 2025 season. A long labor dispute, lockouts, strikes, have caused lasting problems in other sports with the fans feeling disgruntled and underappreciated. Maria answers our listeners questions at the end of the episode.
