Husky Talk- Conversations With Cully And Conlon giving you a new episode. UConn Women's Basketball Legend and Head Coach at Western Connecticut State University, Maria Conlon have a fun conversation.
Maria and Father Tim Conlon put fencing up around her house yesterday. Intense manual labor, Maria has become handy at building or putting things together. She likes the feeling of building something with her hands and how rewarding it is when you complete the job. I saw pictures of the work they did, God bless Maria and her dad, no way I would have done that, but then again, I am the epidemy of laziness.
We go over ESPNs preseason power rankings for the WNBA teams. Maria gives her expert analysis and insight, offering her take on how the season will shake out. She believes Indiana should have been ranked higher overall, but they are still 2nd in the Eastern Conference, and she thinks that is accurate.
Connecticut, who was a top team last season, dropped several spots. Maria said because the roster was overhauled and bringing in a new coach, they are a completely different team. There are rumors the Sun could be looking to sell their franchise and move to a different city. I was shocked by this since Connecticut loves Women's Basketball. Maria pointed out being located in Uncasville isn't exactly a destination for players or coaches.
I offered my two cents on Chicago being ranked 9th and saying it was way too low. I thought with star Angel Reece, Kamilla Cardoso, and the addition of Courtney Vandersloot would make them a force. Maria pointed out Angel Reece, despite averaging a double, double in points and rebounds her rookie year is overrated. She plays good defense, blocks shots, and rebounds well. Vandersloot is on the backend of her career, and playing in the West will be a challenge.
Maria talks about her recruits and expectations for her team at West Conn. She never stops working and that is why she is so successful in life.
